The course is now nine modules
There is a ninth module. Stretching used to be the last three lessons of module 8, and it has become six lessons of its own. Modules 4 and 5 have been rewritten. Nobody buys anything a second time.
The reason module 9 exists is not a good one, in the sense that it is not a plan coming together. Stretching was the last third of the module about gradients, and it was the section people wrote in about — not because it was good, but because it was the shortest treatment of the hardest thing in the course. Three lessons was not enough for a step where the whole question is how far do I go, and every honest answer to that begins with a judgement rather than a setting.
So it is nine rungs now instead of eight, and the ladder is slightly more honest about where the difficulty actually is.
Module 4 was rewritten because the section on flat frames explained what they do and never said plainly what they cannot do — which is the thing that wastes clear nights. Module 5 was rewritten because it under-weighted surface brightness, which is the single most useful idea in target selection under a bad sky, and had it as a footnote.
| What changed | What it was | Who already has it |
|---|---|---|
| Module 9, stretching — 6 lessons, 3 worked examples | The last 3 lessons of module 8 | Everyone. Complete gets it as a revision; Working and Reading get it because it is a correction to material already sold |
| Module 4 rewritten — what a flat cannot fix | An explanation with the negative half missing | Everyone |
| Module 5 rewritten — surface brightness moved to the front | A footnote at the end of the module | Everyone |
The tiers are unchanged and so are the prices. Complete has always included every future revision; in this case Working and Reading get all three changes too, because two of them are corrections to something already sold and it would be a strange business that charged for those.
